Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja on Tuesday said the government should be responsive to the demands of central trade unions.
"The Central Trade Union is supported by youth, women organizations and political parties, including the Left parties," Raja said.
Raja said, "The Central Trade Union is opposed to the proposed amendments, desires a minimum range of 15K per month for every worker, and also wants disparity between regular employees and contract laborers removed."
"They are also demanding universal public distribution and social security coverage, including a pension scheme," he added.
"The government is acting rigidly, instead of being responsive to the issues raised by trade unions. So, the Central Trade Union has no option other than going for a strike," he told ANI.
"The strike call has been given by all independent Central Trade Union federations, and the government should consider their genuine demands," he added.
"Despite all consequences, the cabinet secretary should ensure that the employees will be given a deal, and there won't be any harassment of employees," Raja said.
