Union Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said modernisation of defence equipments is important and added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is working towards it.
Addressing the Biannual Army Commanders' Conference here, Jaitley said, "Modernisation of defence equipment is important requirement and government is working towards it."
Lauding the Indian Army for standing up to the expectations, Jaitley said, "At every situation whenever challenges multiply and their nature changes, the Indian Army has always outperformed itself."
Jaitley after taking the additional charge of the Defence Ministry last month gave a nod to widespread military reforms.
The reforms are based on a report by Lt General (Retd) DB Shekatkar-led committee, which made recommendations on enhancing the combat potential of India's three armed forces, rationalising the defence budget and improving the teeth-to-tail ratio.
