Greece repays 2 bn euro arrears to IMF

ANI London

Greece has cleared overdue debt repayments of 2.05 billion euros and the country is not in arrears any longer, confirmed the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to BBC, the repayments, and another for 4.2 billion euros to the European Central Bank (ECB) due on Monday, came following the short-term loan of 7 billion euros made by EU to Greece.

Cash-strapped Greece missed one repayment to the IMF in June and another earlier this month.

On Monday, Greek banks reopened after three weeks.

However, many restrictions remain and Greeks are facing price rises with an increase in Value Added Tax (VAT).
