Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that a Grievance Redressal Committee has been formed to address the complaints of the relatives of 1984 riot victims and added that justice will prevail against those guilty.

"A Grievance Redressal Committee has been formed (to help relatives of 1984 riot victims). A retired High Court Justice has been made the chairman and the committee will soon start its work. You can go and lodge your complaints there. I assure you that the Home Ministry will work on the recommendations of the Committee," Singh said while distributing compensation cheques to 1984 riot victims.

"I am sure that an effective justice system which we have will punish those who are guilty. I know that until they (the guilty) get punished, the people (affected families) will not be at peace," he added.

Expressing his sympathies with the families of the victims, Singh said: "The moment I was distributing the cheques it was very sentimental, I saw many mothers and sisters with tears on their eyes."

"The incident took place thirty years back...... I saw that the pain is still very much intact. Lakhs or crores cannot compensate their pain and I understand that," he added.

The Home Minister further described the 1984 riots as a blot in the nations' history.

'I consider those massacres a blot on the history and culture of this country. I know the history of the Sikhs.......whenever there has been any threats that posed before the ethos of our country, the Sikhs always stood up to face the challenges to protect the country," Singh said.
