A proposal in the form of guidelines was presented by Delhi government in the high court today.

This was to address the issues raised by the court earlier in the e rickshaw matter.

Delhi High Court (HC) lawyer R K Kapoor said, "Certain guidelines were presented to the honorable high court of Delhi by Additional Solicitor General so that e rickshaws are allowed to operate in the city till the regular guidelines are framed".

According to Kapoor, the guidelines have attempted to address the three issues of driving license, identification in the form of registration and insurance raised by the court earlier.

On driving license, he said that e-rickshaw operators already have light motor vehicle (LMV) license, the transport department will open extra centres to provide commercial vehicle license to these operators.

Addressing the issue of registration he said, "Transport department has agreed to issue identification cum temporary permission to operate e rickshaw".

On the third issue of insurance, he said " A welfare association has agreed to raise a corpus fund and an amount of Rs 10 lakhs which can be raised immediately".

Kapoor also said, "Based on these the court will hear the argument on 14th of August to decide whether e rickshaws are to be allowed to operate based on these guide lines".

Finally, he added, "We hope that on 14th we will be able to satisfy the court to allow e rickshaws to operate till regular guidelines are framed.
