Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Friday took a jibe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre over the anti-terror mock drill conducted by the Gujarat Police, which showed dummy terrorists wearing skull caps and shouting pro-Islamic slogans, saying this is a gift for Muslims in India on the occasion of the New Year.

"This is a gift for Muslims in India on the occasion of New Year. Muslims have been branded as traitors, anti-nationals and terrorist," he told the media here.

A video of police mock drill showing dummy militants shouting pro-Islamic slogans emerged on Thursday in Gujarat, a day after controversy erupted over men, playing the part of terrorists, being made to wear skullcaps in a similar exercise in Surat.

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has reportedly apologized for the Surat episode that came to light on Wednesday.
