Pakistani fast bowler Umar Gul has reportedly been released from the country's Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka in order to undergo rehabilitation for an injury to his right knee, which he suffered in March last year.
Gul, who also had to undergo an operation in May 2013, was recalled to the one-day squad during Pakistan's 3-2 win over Sri Lanka and was also included in the three-Test squad but has not played in the ongoing first Test in Abu Dhabi.
According to The Dawn, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) however, stated that Gul, who has taken 74 wickets in 52 Twenty20 matches, would be returning back home to Pakistan after the team physiotherapist Dale Naylor then recommended further training in Lahore after treating the bowler for a week.
The PCB further stated that Gul, who has taken 163 wickets in 47 Tests and 168 in 119 one-dayers, has been advised to participate in domestic cricket to regain Test match fitness.
Another fast bowler Mohammad Irfan is also training with the Pakistan squad in Doha, in an effort to regain full fitness from a hip bone fracture sustained during Pakistan's series against South Africa in October-November last year, the report added.
