Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Friday said the Centre has asked for a report from the Punjab Government on the Gurdaspur incident where some 16 persons lost their eyesight after undergoing operations at an eye camp organized by an NGO in the district.

"We have asked for a report from the Punjab Government. But as we have been told that the operations were done by some NGO and it did not have the permission of the state government, we are finding out the details of it and as soon as the details will come we will let you know the update," said Nadda.

"We have asked the state government if they need any help, the Central Government is ready to assist and give help accordingly," he added.

Nadda further said that no expert team has been sent to Punjab as of now. He, however, added that the team would be sent if the state government asks for it.

The Punjab Government Badal has ordered a high-level probe into the untoward incident.

This incident takes place a month after 14 women were killed due to botched up sterilisation surgeries in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district.
