Senior lawyer Abha Singh on Saturday said the Gurdaspur incident where 13 girl students of a government school were stripped by the teacher for suspecting them of stealing a Rs. 500 currency note was a gross violation of human rights.

"Gurdaspur incident where a government school teacher has stripped 13 girls because she felt that 500 rupees were stolen by them is a gross violation of human rights, is a gross violation of the law of the land. She should have approached the police if it was such a serious matter or the school authorities, the teacher cannot take law in her own hands," she said.

"An FIR needs to be registered against the teacher under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that is outraging modesty of a woman, also criminal intimidation 506 IPC and also 509. Because by stripping them, she has outraged the modesty of the young girls, it has insulted them and minimum punishment is one to five years. This must be done because otherwise If not stopped, other people will get embolden and will learn lesson and try to go ahead like this," she added.

In a shocking incident, 13 girl students of a government school were allegedly stripped by a school teacher who suspected them of stealing a Rs 500 currency note.

The parents later lodged a strong protest against the school teacher's 'deplorable' act with the concerned authorities.
