Even as rising incidents of hate crimes against people originating from the North -East in the National Capital Region (NCR), raises its ugly head, city police today arrested one in connection with an assault on Manipuri couple here last night , ruling out any angle of mischief .

"They came and started beating my husband; When I tried to stop them; He started taking out sword and attacked," said Maxi, wife of the Manipuri victim.

Meanwhile the Gurgaon Police has ruled out any mischief in the latest case of attack and ruled out any angle of teasing against women.

"They are neighbours who had a tiff between them at night. We got information from the hospital in the morning and have taken their statements. No woman has sustained injury. The man who has been arrested is from Bihar and the other is from Manipur. There was no incident of teasing," said, Naveen Kumar, a Police Inspector from Gurgaon Police.

An injured Sujit who hails from Bihar got involved in the brawl with the Manipuri man told ANI, "While I was going with my keys at night the other guy was drunk and he picked up a bottle and hit my head."

Dharampal, landlord of both the men injured in the ensuing scuffle agreed with the police ruling out any incident of eve-teasing.

"The man who hailed from Manipur was in an inebriated state and had passed some inappropriate comments to a guy from Bihar who lives next door. Then both of them started fighting. There was no incident of any incident of teasing any lady," Dharampal told ANI.

But Member hailing from the North-East Support Center, Mathew Kamei disagreed with the landlord and the man who got involved in the tiff.

"Its hundred percent opposite. He just went up and complained to his brother's about the indecent manner in which he was wearing just underwear and roamed around here and there which was odd for the girls. Just because of this he was beat with a big sword. He has to protect his wife and himself, so that's why he fought back. That may have hurt someone. If someone is coming and beating then one has to fight back. All the statement has been taken up. The police say that they will do the FIR," Kamei said.

On Sunday night the incident occurred in Nathupur in Gurgaon, which comes days after a Manipuri man was murdered in the wee hours of national capital's Kotla Mubarakpur area.
