The gathering at the Guwahati Panbazar Church, which is the oldest catholic church in the North East, observed a minute's silence to mourn the death of more than 65 people killed by banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) on Tuesday night.
The pastor of the church said Christmas is being celebrated in a more spiritual manner this time.
The people prayed for peace and tranquility in Assam.
Earlier in the day, the devotees in Tripura also prayed for peace in North East on the occasion of Christmas.
