Two people were killed while attempting to jump out of UP- Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express after it caught fire on Friday morning.
Routes of several other trains were diverted due to the accident.
The incident took place near Chaterhat Station which is about 20 Kms away from New Jalpaiguri. Railway authorities claimed that there are no reports of any burn injuries on the bodies of the dead.
"An inquiry for further investigation has been ordered by the Commissioner of Railway Safety under the guidelines of the Government of India. The bodies of the deceased were recovered from the site by the railway medical team and were brought to North Bengal Medical College for further investigation," Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Pranav Jyoti Sharma said in a statement.
"Fire Brigade and the Railway Medical team were rushed immediately to the spot," the statement added.
