A new book has claimed that the Duchess of Cambridge had established a children's clothing company, that had to be scrapped after it became mired in debt.

According to the book, 'Kate the Future Queen', Kate Middleton had met foreign fashion experts and suppliers in the hope to copy her mum Carole's success in business, the Mirror reported.

The new mum, who was dating her future hubby Prince William at the time, had planned the clothing line as part of the Middleton family's Party Pieces website, the book said.

The book alleged that Kate had even won the backing of another clothing company, Viyella, to be a partner.

But Kate "hit obstacles early on" in 2006 and was soon operating at a loss, the book claimed,

Kate decided that she might be better off working for a well established fashion company instead and shut down the business, the book asserted.
