England has upset world number one Sri Lanka by six wickets in a thrilling World Twenty20 Super-10 stage match in Chittagong on Thursday, boosted by a maiden T20 hundred from opener Alex Hales.

With England needing 23 off the last two overs, Hales smashed a 64-ball 116 not out to anchor England's 190-run target chase in 19.2 overs, which was the team's best chase in all T20 cricket.

According to Sport24, the victory gives England their first win in two games while Sri Lanka lost their first in three to leave Group One open with South Africa beating the Netherlands by six runs earlier in the day for their second win in three matches.

The report mentioned that Sri Lanka's total was built around 89 by Mahela Jayawardene and 55 by Tillakaratne Dilshan, and their combined partnership added 145 for the second wicket.

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal blamed the excessive dew for his spinners' failure to put the brakes on England.
