Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he breathed a sigh of relief as a Formula One season utterly dominated by Sebastian Vettel finally came to an end in Sao Paulo.

According to the Mirror, the 28-year-old had been on target for a top-three finish in the final race of the year before accidentally driving into Valtteri Bottas on lap 45.

The 2009 champion was hardly bothered to have conceded third place in the driver's championship to Red Bull's Mark Webber, the report said.

He said that he was glad that the 2013 season was over.

If there was any consolation it was that in falling to fourth in the drivers championship means he will not have to attend the end-of-year FIA prize-giving gala the drivers all dread, the report added.
