Lewis Hamilton has been confirmed as the winner of the Italian Grand Prix after stewards cleared him of any wrongdoing following an alleged tyre pressure breach.

The reigning Formula One world champion extended his lead in the drivers' world championship to 53 points after cruising to a dominant victory at Monza.

Hamilton faced an anxious wait after FIA-backed Pirelli found on the grid that his tyre was 0.3 PSI under the new mandatory limit, Sport24 reported.

However, the FIA subsequently confirmed that Mercedes had followed safe operating procedures and allowed Hamilton to keep his win.

"The stewards have determined that the pressure in the tyres concerned were at the minimum start pressure recommended by Pirelli when they were fitted to the car," said a FIA statement.

Newly-blond Hamilton crossed the finishing line 25 seconds ahead of four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari.

Meanwhile, nearest rival and Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg retired after suffering an engine malfunction with two laps to go.
