Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he was afraid for the first time in his career after his car tyres exploded in his home British Grand Prix last Sunday, where he returned to finish in the fourth place after leading at the start.

According to the Mirror, Hamilton was not thinking about losing the race after the fallout and wanted to quickly go for a pit stop, and said to boss Ross Brawn on the radio that it was a shame about the tyre, who added that without the tyre problem Lewis would have won today and Nico knew that.

The report said that key figures had admitted they were close to abandoning the race where the Englishman was the first to feel the cold chill of reality when he charged away at the front of the field in his pursuit of vitory.
