Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra on Sunday said that his party feels happy and relieved that the much awaited One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme has become a truth.
"We all wanted that it should come at the earliest and today when finally this comes to an end, we feel very relieved and happy that finally the cause for which they were fighting, i.e. OROP has become a truth," Patra told ANI.
Patra welcomed the move saying it was quite painful to see people and veteran of a father's age sitting in hunger strike.
Patra further said, "The Prime Minister also reassured the veterans from Faridabad today, which was a welcome move. We thank the government that finally something which was a contentious issue for such a long span of time, more than 40 years, has become a truth."
Ex-servicemen protesting for the implementation of the OROP scheme called off their hunger strike earlier today, after receiving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reassurance on OROP but said they will continue with their agitation.
"We are happy to announce that we have called off the hunger strike. The Government should agree to VRS and the other four points. It's legal and justified. Agitation will continue," Major General (Retired) Satbir Singh told ANI.
