Indian international footballer Rowllin Borges expressed his happiness over the appointment of Croatian Igor Stimac as the head coach of the national team on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Borges was part of the Indian team in all three group matches at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in UAE and he believes that the coach would be able to take the Indian team to new heights with his planning skills.

"I am very happy to have Igor Stimac as the national team coach. He is a very experienced coach and has coached at really high levels," Goal.com quoted Borges as saying.

"With his new tactics and techniques, I am sure the team will reach higher levels too. I am looking forward to training under him and learn a lot from him," he added.

Stimac has been Croatia's national team manager in the past and he has already prepared a 36-member Indian initial squad for the preparatory camp set to begin from May 22.

The new head coach's first assignment will be in Thailand as India will face the hosts Curacao and Vietnam in the 2019 King's Cup in June.

Stimac was appointed as the head coach of the Indian football team on Wednesday by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

Stimac comes with an experience of over 18 years in coaching, structuring and developing football and players in Croatia and internationally. As a coach, he guided Croatia to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2014 hosted by Brazil.

He also played a pivotal role in developing likes of Dario Srna, Daniel Subasic, Ivan Strinic, Kovacic, Perisic among others. Stimac's last assignment was with Al-Shahania Club in Qatar.
