Hard work paid off, says Yuki Bhambri

Indian tennis player Yuki Bhambri, who recently made it to the top hundred in the recent ATP singles ranking, has said his achievement is a definite step in the right direction.

"It's a definite step in the right direction. It's been long overdue, but I am really happy that my hard work paid off," Bhambri told ANI here.

When asked about his immediate goal, Bhambri said , "The immediate goal is to finish the year in top 100 so that I can get direct entry into the Australian Open, and hopefully maintain my ranking, and also wants to play high-level tournaments, including ATP tournaments regularly to make it to the Rio as well."

 

The 23-year-old also said that he feels glad to be in company of players like Leander Paes and Somdev Devvarman, adding that he hopes he would soon reach at their level.

"Leander is of course is still going on and playing well in the doubles. Somdev has known for number of years now, and he will definitely put India up. I hope to reach, at some point, to their level and do well as they have done in their careers,"

After achieving his career-best rank of 99, Bhambri became the first player since 2010 and third player in 20 years to make it to the list.

Bhambri will now play in Pune Challenger, starting from October 26.
