Harmison says Cook-Moores' partnership best recipe for English cricket

Former England bowler Steve Harmison has said that captain Alastair Cook is the right man to work with Peter Moores after the coach's first spell was doomed with Kevin Pietersen in the side.

Moores has been reportedly backed to make a big success of his second spell in charge of England because he has the right captain alongside him after his partnership with Pietersen in 2008 had been doomed from the start because of a clash of personalities.

Harmison insists that the relationship between Moores and Cook is already a good one, and that can be the foundations on which the England team can be built, The Mirror reported.

Harmison was a part of the side first time around and saw how Moores and Pietersen were caught up in a marriage that would never work and was happily sidelined as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) went in search of a way to make Andrew Strauss captain.

Harmison said that sometimes people clash and something has to give and in 2008 Moores was made a scapegoat by the ECB who wanted to get Strauss in as captain. He said that the coach has got unfinished business at international level and he's got the chance to do it again the way he wants to.

The former bowler said that whether Pietersen was right to do what he did at the time when he was captain, time will tell, he thinks they were both unlucky, but the coach and captain relationship is such a vital one.

Harmison said that he knows Cook well enough and has spoken to him enough to know that he loves working with Moores and that is such an important thing, and added that if a captain and coach get on and can work well together then a team is three quarters of the way there in his mind.
