'Harold and Kumar' director passes away

American film and TV director Danny Leiner has died at the age of 57 after a prolonged illness.

The director of America's famous comedy film series 'Harold and Kumar' passed away on Thursday, reported Page Six. The exact cause of his death is yet to be revealed.

Leiner's 'Dude, Where's My Car?' starring Ashton Kutcher, which was released in 2000, grossed over USD 73.2 million.

He is well known for directing the 2005 movie 'The Great New Wonderful'. The movie wove together five stories set against the backdrop of the uncertain post-September 11 New York City tragedy.

He also directed TV shows like 'The Office', 'Gilmore Girls' and 'Arrested Development'. Leiner even worked as a producer for independent films like 'The Architect' and 'The Young Kieslowski'.
