A senior U.S. official has said that Cuba has released all 53 political prisoners as a result of last month's normalization deal with the United States.
The official said that the U.S. welcomes this positive development and was pleased to see that Cuba has followed through on its commitments, reported News24.
The U.S. official said that various human rights organisations had cited these political prisoners as being detained by the Cuban government for exercising globally protected freedoms or for promoting social and political reform in Cuba.
As a part of last month's historic bilateral rapprochement, Cuba had released more than 40 dissidents by late Friday.
The official said that they had discussed with Cuba the names of individuals who were jailed in Cuba over charges related to political activities.
