Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Tuesday said the ministry has written to the Ugandan High Commission regarding a complaint filed by three Ugandan women with the police indicating that they were allegedly brought to India under false pretenses.
Akbaruddin further said they have suggested to the Ugandan High Commission to provide counselor services to the three Ugandan nationals as early as possible.
"Since last evening, there has been communications between officials of Delhi Government and the Ministry of External Affairs officials. This morning also we have received a communication from the Delhi Government indicating that three Ugandan women, who had come to India on January 17, have requested that they be sent back to Uganda because they were lured to India under false pretences," he said.
"We have immediately written to the Ugandan High Commission on this matter, and suggested that they may like to provide counselor services to the three Ugandan women, and we hope that they will do so as early as possible. We have also communicated this to the Delhi Government," he added.
Earlier on Monday, three Ugandan women had filed a complaint with help from the Delhi Government and sought intervention from the External Affairs Ministry seeking protection for them.
