Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that the Centre has sought a clarification from the Jammu and Kashmir Government on the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam.

"We have sought some clarification from the J-K Government on the matter, and after that, if the Speaker allows us, we will inform the Parliament of the same," Singh told media.

Earlier in the day, the Home Minister informed the Lok Sabha that although 27 criminal cases are against Alam, he has been granted bail in all the cases.

Singh also informed the House that the High Court has said, 'a person cannot be detained for more than two years under the Public Safety Act'.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that there will be no compromise on national security, adding that the Centre was neither informed nor consulted about the release of Alam.

However, leaders of the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD and CPI (M) expressed their displeasure with the responses of the Prime Minister and Home Minister and staged a walkout.
