Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said his government had waged a war against poverty through a policy driven approach, adding that the Skill Development Mission will bring about a sense of self-confidence among the poor.

"Through a policy driven approach we have waged a war against poverty and we have to win this war. India's youth is not happy simply asking for things. He or she wants to live with pride and dignity," Prime Minister Modi said at the launch of the National Mission for Skill Development here.

"This initiative is not merely to fill pockets but to bring a sense of self-confidence among the poor. Through this mission we want to fulfill dreams of people and we want to do it in a structured way, taking states together," he added.

The Prime Minister also stressed upon the creation of structures and mechanisms to nurture youngsters, enabling them to find employment.

"We need to give impetus to entrepreneurship. We want opportunities to increase. That is why we have not restricted ourselves to skills, we have focussed on entrepreneurship," he said.

"Our training institutions must become dynamic, Look at the way technology is changing things," he added.
