The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday stayed the transfer of Enforcement Directorate (ED) assistant director, Niranjan Singh, who is currently probing the case involving Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa welcomed the move, and reminded Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of the promise he had made regarding the narcotics problem in Punjab.
"We are thankful to the Punjab and Haryana High Court for staying the transfer order of Niranjan Singh. I am confident that he and his team will bring about justice in this case," Bajwa told ANI.
"I would just like to remind Arun Jaitley that during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he had stood from Amritsar and had promised to the people that he would put a stop to the rampant drug use in the state," he added.
According to reports, the court stayed the order after the ED officer pleaded that he was currently investigating the Majithia case. The court has also summoned all records regarding his transfer and has fixed February 2 as the next date of hearing.
