Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist will captain rival teams in a celebrity testimonial match for the former Australian skipper as Ponting will play one last time on January 30 for the charity Twenty20 match in his hometown Launceston along with Justin Langer, Ian Healy and Andrew Symonds.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Shane Warne won't play but Ponting is talking to part-time Tasmanian AFL clubs Hawthorn and North Melbourne and local product Jack Riewoldt.
Tasmanian boxer Daniel Geale has also committed to some form of involvement in the Aurora Stadium event, while several big-name musicians and media celebrities are being approached, the report said.
Organisers are hoping for a crowd of 15,000 and proceeds will go to the Ricky Ponting Foundation, which supports children with cancer, the report added.
The game will be billed as the Biggest, Biggest Game of Cricket to fit with a campaign the foundation already runs and children will be invited to organise their own games on the ground before the match, the report further said.
