Hemantha Devapriya has tendered his resignation as the head coach of the Sri Lanka women's team with immediate effect, citing personal reasons.

Devapriya was appointed to the post in October 2016 in a two-year deal, but she has decided to step down just five months prior to the World Twenty20 in West Indies.

Confirming the news, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley De Silva said, "Whilst thanking Devapriya for his services, SLC will start the process of engaging a new coach to take the women's team forward."

During his tenure, Lanka have managed to clinch just seven of 34 international matches they have played.

While Lanka had won just one out of seven matches they played in the World Cup last year, they got only two victories in five matches they played most recently in the Asia Cup in Malaysia.
