A cat, who saved her owner's four-year-old son from being mauled by a dog, will be throwing the first pitch at a baseball game next week.

The Bakersfield Blaze, a minor league Californian team, posted on their Twitter account that the fearless cat Tara will be honoured at next Tuesday's game with the first pitch, Sky News reported.

The team's spokesman, Dan Besbris told Sky News that the team has a trick up their sleeves to help the cat complete a pitch, unless it freaks out and runs off.

Jeremy Triantafilo had been riding his cycle in the his parents' home driveway in Bakersfield, California, when a neighbour's eight-month-old Labrador-Chow mix ran up from behind and attacked him.

However, out of nowhere, Tara flew at the dog and sent it packing.
