Former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs has claimed that he believes the time has come for the national team to become the world champions by winning the World Cup finally in 2015, insisting that they don't deserve the 'chokers' tag.

The 41-year-old is second only to Jacques Kallis in the list of leading run-scorers for South Africa in ODIs, having scored 8,094 runs from 248 matches at an average of 36.13 with as many as 21 centuries and 37 fifties.

Gibbs believes that the time has come for South Africa to become world champions this time around, adding that the squad does not deserve the chokers tag. He said that they honestly didn't choke as much as it is associated with them, Sport24 reported.

The former batsman claimed that for choking, one got to be in a winning position and that only happened in the 1999 World Cup, insisting that he always feel that once they crossed the semifinal stage, there would be no stopping them.

Gibbs famously dropped Australia skipper Steve Waugh during 1999 World Cup Super-Six stage and Waugh went on to score a century and South Africa finished on the losing end despite Gibbs' ton in the first innings, the report added.
