Himachal DGP assures fair, free election tomorrow

Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Somesh Goyal on Wednesday assured of a fair and free election as the state geared up to vote on November 9.

Speaking to ANI, Goyal said: "For the November 9 poll, we have made elaborate security arrangements, deploying more than 11, 000 policemen of the state and 6,400 home guards, including 1000 from Uttarakhand. 65 companies of the paramilitary force have also been pressed into service. We ensure fair and free elections. All the assigned people have taken their position."

Goyal said special measures have also been taken in border and sensitive areas.

"On the border we have done two things: 96 areas will have CCTV camera coverage and the surveillance of the neighbouring states has also been stepped up."

 

"We have made impressive seizures this time: more than 71 thousand litres of liquor has been recovered, also cash worth Rs. 1.66 crore and 400 types of narcotics have been seized. Lots of efforts have been made throughout the state by the police to ensure view free and fair elections," he added.

Earlier in the day, State Chief Electoral Officer Pushpinder Rajput said over Rs 1.3 crore cash and more than 2.35 litres of liquor have been seized in the state ahead of the elections since July.

Himachal Pradesh will go to polls for its 68-member state assembly elections tomorrow.
