Forest officials in Himachal Pradesh have gunned down a suspected man-eater leopard, which is believed to have killed a young girl earlier this month.
The seven member search team, which had been formed to hunt down the rogue beast, shot the leopard on Friday after being on the lookout for five days.
Divisional Forest Officer Amit Sharma said cameras were installed and traps had been laid to catch the leopard.
"We identified the animal to be a male leopard by tracing the pug marks. It was about five-year-old. We finally found the leopard at the place where he takes the carcass and it was killed on Friday night around 10.30 pm," said Sharma.
The leopard's killing has come as a relief to the villagers, who had been terrified with the wild animal roaming freely in the residential area.
