Leaders of Pakistan's minority Hindu community are demanding a national holiday for the festival of Diwali.

According to the BBC, Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, a member of Pakistan's parliament said that he raised the issue with the speaker of the National Assembly on Monday.

He said that it was a basic right of the minority community and that the move would soften Pakistan's international image.

It would also send a message to the public and show that the government is not biased against the minorities, said Vankwani.

Hindus is Pakistan constitute for about four percent of the entire population.
