An Indian facing extradition to Australia for killing a teenager while drunk five years ago has pleaded with the Indian government for help.

Puneet Puneet made a brief appearance at New Delhi court for the extradition process and is expected to back in court on Friday.

According to news.com.au, the 24-year-old, who was a hospitality student, said he did not want to go back to Australia because he has no resources to fight and he is scared.

Punnet pleaded again and again to the Indian government to come forward and help him.

He said it was an accident that could have happened to anybody.

Puneet was a 19-year-old learner driver when he hit and killed Dean Hofstee, 19, and seriously injured Clancy Coker, 20, in Southbank in Melbourne on October 1, 2008, the report said.

Australian police said that Puneet was driving at 148km/h, more than double the legal limit. He also tested positive for alcohol.

After being charged with negligent driving and causing serious injury, Puneet fled Australia using a fellow Indian's passport, the report added.
