In a major respite for Gurbaj Singh, the Hockey India on Saturday decided to lift the nine-month ban imposed on the veteran midfielder on the charges of misconduct and creating disharmony within the team.

The move comes after the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the 'illegal' sanction with immediate effect on Monday.

"Considering the court's decision, the committee members have unanimously decided to lift the ban on Gurbaj Singh with immediate effect and he is allowed to play in all international and domestic tournaments," Harbinder Singh, the head of the Hockey India's disciplinary committee, made the announcement at a press conference in Delhi.

Felix had levelled the charges against Gurbaj in his report following the conclusion of the Hockey World League Semifinals in Antwerp, Belgium in July.

With the ban being lifted, Gurbaj, who has represented the country over 200 internationals, could now be able to play in next year's Rio Olympics.
