Hollywood mourns demise of 'Batman' star Adam West

Veteran U.S. actor Adam West, best known for starring as 'Batman' in the 1960s hit TV series died yesterday at the age of 88.

The news of West's death has met with an outpouring of grief from celebrities on social media.

Hollywood celebrities like Ben Affleck, Mark Hamill, Seth MacFarlane and more extended their mourning on the star's death.

Ben Affleck, who plays Batman in the current version of the DC superhero film franchise tweeted, "Adam West exemplified heroism. Kind, funny and an all around great guy. Thank you for showing us all how it's done. @therealadamwest."

'Star Wars' actor Mark Hamill, who voiced The Joker in 'Batman: The Animated Series,' took to Twitter and wrote, "#AdamWest was such a wonderful actor & so kind, I'm so lucky to have worked w/ him & tell him how much he meant to me & millions of fans."

 

Seth MacFarlane, creator of 'Family guy' also remembered the late voice actor by sharing an emotional note.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' director James Gunn also extended his condolences and tweeted, "Although I haven't often talked about it, before I could barely read, YOU were the reason I fell in love with superheroes. #RIPAdamWest."

'Lord of the Rings' fame, Elijah Wood expressed his thoughts by saying, "Sad to hear of Adam West's passing. A legend as Batman but also, Ty Lookwell."

West is survived by his wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

"Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans' lives. He was and always will be our hero," The Hollywood reporter quoted a family spokesperson as saying.

West, struggled to find work after the superhero series was canceled, but he rebounded with voiceover gigs, including one as the mayor of Quahog on 'Family Guy.'

He was born William West Anderson in Seattle on Sept. 19, 1928, the second of two sons. His father, Otto, was a wheat farmer; his mother, Audrey, was a pianist and opera singer.
