The Home Ministry on Friday issued a security alert for Delhi, Mumbai and all states adjoining Pakistan ahead of India celebrating its 69th Independence Day on Saturday.
The security alert has reportedly been issued in anticipation of a possible terror threat. This action has also been taken in the wake of the Gurdaspur and Udhampur terror strikes.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the state government on Friday imposed restrictions on several parts of Srinagar and placed some separatist leaders under house arrest.
At least six police stations in Srinagar's old city are on high alert to prevent supporters of separatist leaders from creating an adverse law and order situation.
Police personnel have been deployed around the Grand Jamia Masjid where Mirwaiz was scheduled to address after the Friday prayers. People are not being allowed to offer prayers at the Jamia Masjid today.
There are reports also of the chairperson of the Duktharian-e-Millat, Asiya Andrabi, along with her dozens of supporters hoisted Pakistani flags at an undisclosed location in the city.
