Nearly 200 pro-democracy activists have been arrested in Hong Kong as police cleared the main protest site at Admiralty.

The dismantling took place peacefully but many activists pledged to continue with other forms of civil disobedience, reported the BBC.

Police began clearing the protest sites early on Thursday.

Demonstrators have been protesting against Beijing's decision to vet candidates in the 2017 elections. The unrest began in September but has dwindled in recent weeks from the tens of thousands of activists who turned up two months ago.
