US author Samara O'Shea has claimed that unrequited love isn't love, but an unhealthy obsession that is better left behind.
The 33-year-old blogger asserted that it is painful because without realizing it, we give our entire sense of self-worth to another person, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
O'Shea explained that the initial step for getting over the hurt is to start taking back your self-esteem, adding that you should constantly say to yourself, 'It's not up to him or her how I feel about myself.'
She insisted that even though you feel sad and disappointed, which are completely legitimate feelings, you still need to tell yourself that you're a quality person and you will recover from this.
O'Shea told the publication that it is important to accept the relationship isn't going to work out and it's time to let go.
She insisted that sometimes it takes just as much courage and strength to let something go as it does to hold on.
She further added that it is very essential to remember, you're not giving up on love you're giving up on this persona and by doing so you're opening up door to let new love in.
