A Human Rights Watch report has said that Sudanese army troops raped at least 122 women and girls last year in a village in Darfur in a series of house-to-house attacks.

According to News24, the organisation's Africa director Daniel Bekele said that it was a "new low in the catalogue of atrocities in Darfur."

The incident is at the heart of the relations between Sudan and the international community over a region inflicted with violence and chaos for more than 10 years.

The Security Council has demanded that Sudan should allow a full investigation into the incident.

Sudanese government has said that there had not been a single incident of rape.
