A group that tracks the deaths in the Syrian civil war has said that at least 323 children aged three have died in the war so far.
The Syrian Revolution Martyr Database is run by opponents to the Syrian regime. It notes that in many cases the age of the child is not known and thus cannot be recorded.
According to the Washington Post, a photograph of a 3-year-old Syrian child Aylan Kurdi lying lifeless in the sand on a Turkish beach, has sparked anger and anguish worldwide.
In total, the organisation found evidence of almost 2,000 children under the age of 10 who had been killed since the fighting began.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory said that more than 2,20,000 people had died since the war began.
