Issuing a clarification on his statement of stopping the migrant influx into Delhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Vijay Goel today said he had been misquoted, and added what he meant was that if each state was more developed, people would not have to come to the national capital to look for a livelihood or to stay.
"I meant that if all the other states are developed, then people won't have to come to Delhi for better options and opportunities. I have been misquoted, what I meant to say was completely different," said Goel.
Earlier today, BJP leader C.P Thakur said that Goel should have thought twice before making such a statement.
"Delhi is for all. Everyone has a right to live here and therefore he (Goel) should have thought a bit before making such a statement," said Thakur.
Suggesting this as one of the solutions to the issues in Delhi, Goel had asked to stop the inflow of migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the capital, which has garnered him a lot of criticism from the public.
Goel had made the statement in the Rajya Sabha while debating the Delhi budget.
