Indian Air Force suffered a major jolt on Friday, when one of its new C-130J Super Hercules transport planes, which have been configured for special operations and airborne assault, crashed near Gwalior, on Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan border.

According to media reports, the aircraft was carrying five people. All five of them have been killed. The plane took off from Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

The incident has left the IAF concerned, as the plane was known to be one of the safest aircrafts, and has capabilities of landing and taking off even in improvised or short airfields, and without lights.

Meanwhile, rescue teams have been sent to the spot where the incident have taken place.

The C-130J aircraft was one of the six bought two years ago as part of a USD 1.2 billion dollar contract signed with the United States in 2008.
