Ibibo, which is one of the largest online travel groups in India, has rolled out redBus service in Singapore and Malaysia.

The users can access the service through mobile apps on iOS and Android. They can also log onto the website www.redbus.sg for more information.

"Being an Indian company that has 80 percent market share in online transport category, going global seemed like a good option. We have worked hard to build this new global platform with superior mobile apps and a strong management and technology team in place," said Ashish Kashyap, Founder and CEO, Ibibo, about replicating Indian model in Singapore and Malaysia.

He also mentioned that transport sector has immense potential in India.

"Airline transport business recorded a growth rate of 16 percent -18 percent, while bus transport business surpassed that with 25 percent -27 percent growth rate in this year," said Ashish while talking about the overall market growth in the transport sector.

Rolling out an Indian bus service in a foreign market can be a tricky game.

Ashish is, however, confident about the redBus service.

"Years of experience in the transport sector and superior user experience of redBus will give the company an edge over the local players in Singapore and Malaysia," he said.

With this service, there will be more than one lakh seats available for sale on a daily basis. Ticket bookings can be made either in Singapore dollars or in Malaysian ringgits.

In fact, the tourists from India can also book bus tickets in Singapore and Malaysia by visiting www.redbus.sg or by changing the region and currency setting on the redBus app.

Prakash Sangam, CEO of redBus, said the bus market in many countries is similar to that in India, characterized by a fragmented bus operator base and largely unorganized or semi-organized.

"redBus has shown through its experience in India that by deploying technology, it is possible to enable online real-time booking across a wide selection of bus operators, thus making life extremely convenient for bus travellers," he added. (ANI)
