IED blast at Imphal, no casualties reported

A bomb suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED), exploded near a traffic signal pole at the crossing point of Mahatma Gandhi Avenue early this morning.

According to reports, the blast took place between 3. 48 a.m. and 4.10 a.m., eyewitnesses said.

An eyewitness, Subh Bihari, said that no casualties have been reported as the blast took place in the wee hours.

"We came to know much later that a bomb had exploded. There are no casualties. The rooftop of a building has been damaged," he said.

The traffic pole was blown to smithereens. Several window panes of adjoining buildings were also damaged by the explosion. No casualties were reported.

 

Police officials and forensic ballistic experts were taking stock of the situation.

The area where the blast took place is at the heart of Imphal town and just 300 meters away from the city police station.
