The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) on Monday asked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to support the Centre in demonetisation initiative if she is pro poor.

"If Mamataji is saying that she is not protesting for personal gain or benefit and doing so for the masses or the poor, then she should consider supporting the initiatives of the government wholeheartedly, because after all, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the Pradhan Sevak," BJP spokesperson Nalin Kolhi told ANI here.

Kohli further stated, "his government is consistently working for the poor, the downtrodden, the farmers and the youth. Black money is with the rich, not the poorest of the poor and fake currency are with those who are in nefarious activities."

"Opening 23-25 crore accounts for the poor which was never done in the past 40 -50 years. Is that not work for the poor. For every section of society he is relentlessly working," he added.

Earlier in the day, Banerjee said she would protest on the roads of Delhi on Thursday to voice her concerns against demonetisation.

"I don't even know whether the Union Cabinet was informed about demonetisation. My humble submission to the Centre is to work together and solve this issue. We have to protect the common people. I am going to Delhi tomorrow. I will be on the road again," she told the media here.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo also made it clear that she had no personal interest, but was doing this for the sake of the nation.

"We are ready to join any political programme. I have no personal interests. I am doing this for the sake of the people of the country," she said.

Training her guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the TMC chief lambasted the government for poor planning of demonetisation.

Prime Minister Modi had on Sunday responded to her criticism by saying "those who looted poor through a chit fund scam are today questioning the Centre.
