The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday condemned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Prahlad Gunjal's indecent act of threatening Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. R.N. Yadav on the phone and said that legal action should be initiated against the Rajasthan legislator.
"I think this is a very very serious matter. Firstly, he is a doctor and threatening any doctor during his services is a punishable act. Secondly, he is a government doctor and threatening a government officer during his or her hours of services is again a legal issue," said IMA general secretary Narendra Saini.
"Legal action should be immediately started against the MLA. We do not go by the words of the BJP that it is thinking of doing something about the matter at hand, we want that legal action must start immediately in this case," he added.
Expressing serious concern over the issue, Saini further said all of us support the doctor, who has been threatened by the MLA.
"Rather, the Indian Medical Association, and all those people who have been doing their jobs nicely and are threatened by politicians, the IMA is taking a very serious note of this and legal action must start immediately," said Saini.

According to reports, Gunjal had earlier on Thursday threatened the CMO on phone for not allowing the transfer of a BJP worker's relative.
As per the audio tapes, Gunjal did not just threaten the medical officer but also used abusive language against him and his family members.
The BJP is expected to initiate action against the legislator from Kota.
Meanwhile, the doctors in Kota have announced a two-hour strike today in protest against the MLA's behaviour.
