Imphal: 19 killed, 30 injured in three separate road accidents

In a truly tragic day for Manipur, at least 19 people including women and youth were killed in deadly road accidents that occurred at three different places.

The first accident took place in Senapati district in between Makan and Chakhumai area along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway at around 3:00 am today.

The incident took place when the Imphal-bound tourist bus fell into a gorge located between Maram and Makhan villages along the Imphal-Mao sector of the National Highway 2, about 90 km north of Imphal around 3am, reports said.

According to police 10 people died, while 25 were injured.

Eight people lost their lives on the spot while one succumbed to injuries on their way to the hospital.

 

Some of the injured were admitted to the Senapati District Hospital, which is the nearest health care centre, while seven others were brought to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal.

According to sources, the death toll is likely to go up as the condition of some the injured is serious.

Police sources said that the cause of the accident is being ascertained.

They added that a case has been registered at Mao Police station and an investigation is on.

The second accident took place at around 12.20 am along Imphal Jiribam road between Khongsang and Irang.

The ill fated winger passenger vehicle was coming towards Imphal from Jiribam side.

At least 7 passengers are reported killed on spot.

The third accident at Lairou is along Imphal Dimapur road after a truck hit at the hillock.

The driver of the truck died while his helper sustained injury.
