Former Pakistan captain and veteran cricket Imran khan has backed the national team despite their 76-run loss to arch-rivals India in their World Cup opener in Adelaide, saying that it could be a blessing in disguise for them.

The cricketer-turned politician, who is crowned with the honour of bringing home Pakistan's only World Cup till date, claimed that Pakistanis should not get depressed over the team's loss to India, adding that if the performance is accurately analysed, the defeat could be a blessing in disguise, The Dawn reported.

Pakistan kept alive its tradition of choking in front of India during the world championships, making this their defeat sixth in a row since 1992.

The high-voltage match was unable to bring the best out of Pakistani players as they suffered a massive 76-run defeat while chasing a target of 300 runs.

With the squad being a target of heavy criticism back home, Imran Khan issued his statement on Twitter to boost morale and comfort the public in general.

The former skipper's comments on the team's performance were very positive and he expressed confidence that the team could still perform well at the tournament. He said that there was some good talent on display but urged for the need of a better strategy.
